8 Nov 2013 · By Kona Class

1. What is the StepOne?

The StepOne is a board concept built on the successful Kona One shape together with a basic but robust rig. It allows entry-level sailors to experience the successful Kona One concept at a much more affordable price level.

2. Why has the StepOne been developed?

Kona One is the windsurfing class of the future. In just a few years it has grown into being one of the largest one-design classes globally, attracting more and more sailors across all continents. As part of this growth, demand has emerged for access to the Kona concept at a more affordable price to allow sailors at all levels to experience its unique qualities. The StepOne is the product designed to meet this growing demand.

3. In what way is the StepOne different from the Kona One?

The StepOne shares the exact same shape as the Kona One, but comes with a more basic deck pad, fin, and daggerboard. It allows beginners to access the Kona One concept at a much more affordable price point.

4. Will there be a special rig for the StepOne?

A dedicated rig has been developed to suit the StepOne concept. It is robust, very easy to handle, and priced affordably. The color-coding system corresponds with the Kona One sails: 5.8, 6.6, and 7.4 m². The sail is built for durability, featuring grid construction in high-stress areas and monofilm to keep the sail lightweight. The mast is partly built with carbon, ensuring high quality and easy handling.

5. Who is the target group for the StepOne?

The StepOne is ideal for entry-level sailors, windsurfing schools, and rental centers.

6. Will it be possible to race with the StepOne?

That is up to local clubs, national associations, and ultimately the Kona Windsurfing Association to decide. Kona One is a strict one-design class, and StepOne is not class legal. However, StepOne works perfectly for informal, local club racing.

7. How do I order the StepOne?

The most convenient way to order the StepOne is through your local Kona Windsurfing partner.
